GPI & ASC Partner with GoBabyGo

Saturday, November 23, 2024, was delivery day for nine children who participated in the GoBabyGo program’s Wichita State University chapter. GPI and ASC have signed a 3-year sponsorship deal with WSU to support this project, with sister company ASC having their first sponsored car in this semester’s group of cars. Penny, the little girl who received the car, has very limited motion in only one hand and so in a combined effort with the physical therapy students, computer science/engineering students and engineering students have volunteered their time to design a car specifically designed to meet Penny’s individual needs.

GoBabyGo is a remarkable organization dedicated to enhancing the mobility and independence of children with disabilities. Founded by Dr. Cole Galloway, a professor of physical therapy at the University of Delaware, GoBabyGo has been transforming lives since its inception in 2012. The mission of GoBabyGo is to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to explore their world through mobility. The organization envisions a world where every child, regardless of their physical limitations, can experience the joy and freedom of movement.

GoBabyGo is best known for its innovative approach to mobility. The organization modifies off-the-shelf ride-on toy cars, making them accessible for children with various mobility challenges. These modifications are often simple yet highly effective, including the addition of custom seating, harnesses, and easy-to-use controls. This creative solution not only provides children with a means of independent movement but also promotes social interaction and cognitive development.

The impact of GoBabyGo extends far beyond the individual children who receive modified cars. The organization fosters a sense of community by involving families, volunteers, and local businesses in the modification process. Workshops and build events are held across the country, bringing people together to support a common cause. This collaborative effort not only raises awareness about mobility issues but also strengthens community bonds.

While GoBabyGo started in the United States, its influence has spread worldwide. There are now GoBabyGo chapters and affiliates in numerous countries, each working towards the same goal of empowering children through mobility. The global network of GoBabyGo ensures that more children, regardless of where they live, can benefit from these life-changing modifications.

Looking ahead, GoBabyGo aims to continue expanding its reach and impact. The organization is exploring new technologies and partnerships to further enhance the mobility solutions they offer. Additionally, GoBabyGo is committed to ongoing research to better understand the needs of children with disabilities and to develop even more effective interventions.

GoBabyGo is a shining example of how innovation, community involvement, and a commitment to inclusivity can create profound positive change. By giving children the gift of mobility, GoBabyGo is not only improving their quality of life but also inspiring hope and possibility for families around the world.

We are thrilled to announce that next semester, GPI will be sponsoring its very first car for the GoBabyGo event. We are thrilled to support the GoBabyGo cause, as it aligns deeply with our company's values and engineering roots. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to innovation and making a meaningful impact, and GoBabyGo offers an incredible opportunity to do just that. This initiative embodies our passion for problem-solving with the power of teamwork, and it’s an exciting opportunity to help enhance the mobility and independence of young children.
